delete facebook

Postby ed12 on Mon Oct 03, 2011 3:45 am

Hi Guys,
I am a 65 year old bloke who counts himself lucky to have found this page, my knowledge of computers etc is not far beyond turning the electricity on. A cousin put Linux on this Acer One notebook for me but he has moved out of contact. I would like to delete "Facebook" from my computer. I use Google. If possible please explain very slowly and if possible keystroke by keystroke. I have written stuff around the web and as a friend wanted me to participate on facebook she showed me how to navigate around the site. Still lost though. I had joined but found the site to difficult to use. When she gave me a lesson I found all this stuff I had written elsewhere plastered up on facebook. I don't mind it being up there but I do mind not being told it would end up there. So I want to ply the axe to facebook.
utt I hope you guys can help.
I hope I can find my way back here. That is a big question.
regards
ed

Hi Guys,
Found my way back.
Thanks for all the great advice and also for the advice on how to "end" the help session. The first method I tried was too difficult for me but it led me to a security page and there I saw a "deactivate" button. So I took the easy option and will stay well away from facebook. I guess I will never know if it keeps following me without my knowledge ( I would have to go back and rejoin to check- the catch 22 option) but I will see what transpires.
God bless.
regards

Just go here, read the (very) short instructions and delete your account: http://deletefacebook.com/

as an old foggy myself, what i think you want to do is remove face-book from the programs

you will need to know the sudo [management password] then go to software manager, put facebook in the search box, you will then get a list of possible entries, select the facebook one which has a green tick, then you will get a communication box, click REMOVE and put in the password and as if by magic [well not that quick] facebook will be removed from your programs the only other thing you may need to do is delete the desktop icons

I'm pretty sure that Mark Zuckerberg would have something to say about if you tried to delete Facebook per se ;)

The OP states he got the puter from his cousin, the op doesn't use [therefore will not have a facebook account] he only wants to get rid of the program from his desktop & programs

Let me repeat, Facebook is not a program or application locally stored or installed on a computer, it is an online social networking site where users set up online profiles. Deactivation and deletion of Facebook accounts happen on the Facebook site - as the OP has done.

from what I understand - the problem was that if you didn't log out of Facebook - any comment made on any other website was done in your Facebook account name - and also appeared on the wall or something. Hate that stupid Facebook. Now you have deactivated it - but if you ever enter your username and password again - it will be there as it was before, with all the posts even if you have manually deleted them before and all the personal messages you have deleted , because you can not delete anything ever! And if you choose to check what friends you might have by checking email addreses (by logging into your email) you also have invited everybody, even if you said NO, and if you out of curiosity reactivated it 2y later - you are inviting all those people again to be your friends, even if in reality you don't want to see them ever again!
