Ähm ... Danke ... aber das war mir schon klar. Die Version, die bei mir installiert ist, ist aber die
10er LMDE (zumindest stand das auf der DVD!?), weswegen ich leichtfertig dachte, es gibt
einen anderen Weg, als Daten sichern, System platt machen, neu installieren, Sicherung
einspielen und ewig rumfumeln, damit wieder alles geht ...

Dabei handelt es sich eindeutig um die Ubuntu basierte Mint 10 Julia. Du willst upgraden auf LM 11 Caspar (Debian)
schreibst du in deiner Überschrift. Sowas gibt es nicht. LM 11 hat den Codenamen Katya und auch die ist Ubuntu basiert.

Du hast kein LMDE installiert und kannst demzufolge nicht ohne Neuinstallation auf LMDE 201109 Gnome umstellen. Allenfalls
kannst du versuchen von Mint 10 Julia auf Mint 11 Katya zu aktualisieren.
