Hi "ZZ" :)

Been trying to get the shell working, but can only run in "fallback mode" right now.
Got to read through the GNOME 3 thread to see if I can figure out why.

But that's for tomorrow.

By coincidence, I had been running a new install of Oneiric today, and using the shell on it.
I like the shell, (after many tweaks) http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/things-t ... buntu.html
Shows lots of promise...

but unity doesn't cut it.

i would say that not all the needed pkgs made it to sid, last time i tried the shell in LMDE, the list was huge http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 60#p471776 , so you have to wait (maybe a few days to have everything working :o )

my feeling exactly  i installed oneiric a couple weeks ago (beta2) to give gnome3.2 a test-run and unity looks nice at first, but it's unusable

Guess I've got to be patient.
A few more updates this morning, but still cant boot into the shell.
I get that "very polite"
"OOPS! something went wrong, sending you back to login screen"...
At least it does not just crash like old Gnome.
Fallback mode is OK, but it sure is not the same as Gnome 2.3.
I downloaded the "Gnome Tweak Tool" and it works, and helps, but cant change panels in any way.

I'll post, if I can find a way to get into the "shell".
This should keep you and the other moderators busy when it hit testing in a few weeks....

if the fallback-mode is fully functional (and may not) try hold the alt key+right clich over the panel, you should be able to add some of the applets and reach the conf dialog box

I guess its not fully functional yet, as this tip does not work for me.
I looked at the Configuration Editor and saw nothing to help.

Everything actually works fine. Compiz, Emerald, Nvidia, sound, fonts nice and clear.
Nautilus is compromised. No Nautilus-gksu (open as administrator).
No Nautilus-open-terminal (dependency issue).
Should be a busy day..

EDIT:

I did find a way to edit panels and delete the bottom one.
But, I have to hold down the ALT key+ click BOTH right and left mouse buttons. ? :?:
This may be particular to my hardware, or might work for others..
I can ADD components to panel, but can't DELETE them.

Thanks 'zerozero'
