There used to be a sticky about this, but I can't find it. Some posts in the forum has been partly corrupted and this may be one of them
This is really frustrating....
You are now among my posts and I'll see it later and try to find a solution

Sorry
I can not find an older post about this, which I need for the answer, but I will search for it.
Truecrypt may be an alternative

I think there is only one way to encrypt your root patition...

1st) You download the Ubuntu Alternate Edition
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Activate the "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer."-Box

2nd) You install Ubuntu to your desktop i mean you can activate Diskencryption...

3rd) You edit your source.list:

4th) tHen you istall all the good mint-stuff

We had something about this but unfortunately the search in the new forum is no good.
One of the things that need attention and hopefully will be solved...
