xircon, it's either related with that "200 line patch" you are talking about or with the liquorix kernels (what basically means the same - because afaik the patch is enabled by default in them)

Not on liquorix here, stock 3.0.0-1-amd64. I did play around with this, but can see no evidence of it so far, but am running out of time, got to go out shortly

To fix it remove or comment out these lines in /etc/bash.bashrc:

These lines were from user space version of the 'famous 200 line patch', which has integrated into the latest liquorix kernel, making these lines unnecessary anyway

That's what I thought, but can see no evidence of the lines in question, I thought I had put them there myself, but they are commented out. Anyway, really must go out

Just picked up on the thunderbird thread here.
My thunder bird has disappeared ok reinstall no prob and the data is still there BUT.....

I can't find it in Software manager or synaptics ....

Now I'm not sure if it was just the update that did this, because I also ran a "complete removal" of pidgin because of facebook no longer connecting!

In any case any one know how to get it back ????? ( any points to the pidgin problem would be nice too

)

That is very strange. If it works then obviously it must be installed but not listed. You are looking under "Thunderbird" and not "Mozilla" I guess?

The only thing I can suggest it to open a terminal and do:

Code: Select all: sudo apt-get install --reinstall thunderbird

And see if it you can find it then.

I just went ahead and switched to icedove and iceweasel (and sym-linked to my existing thunderbird/firefox settings). In my daily usage the only thing I see differently is the icon;)

Todays update is coming with new versions of xserver. If installed, Frickelplatz versions are replaced with the new versions.
The result is a slow system again, some applications won't start on my system and CPU usage is very high.

Thanks for the warning Gerd. I didn't use the 'Frickelplatz' maneuver so the x packages are still held back for me, but it saves me the trouble of trying the new versions out.

Good news, Nvidia propdriver 290.03-1 is available in experimental. In the german debian forums it's reported this driver
is working well with xserver 2.1.11 stuff. I didn't try it yet, but will later this evening. Report follows around midnight

Hello,
I'm confused about why I shall install hunspell-en-us (what does it do?) since I'm using a Swedish version of LMDE
and don't want to get my Thunderbird removed with the risk of loosing any important mail or account settings.
Could anyone give me a hint about which of the upgrade packages I can exclude to save T-bird?

I also have another problem in LMDE.
When I play some music in Rythmbox or Audacious the sound get splattered and distorted every now and then.
The only solution I found to this was to disconnect the server in PulseAudio Manager and reconnect it again or
just shutdown and restart Rythmbox or Audacious wich also worked, but not for good.
Anyone got a solution to this?

MrBreeze, hunspell is a spell-checker, and this particular pkg of little use to you, i assume; you can try to remove hunspell before the update, and see if that won't affect TB, but if it has to go, it's almost safe to say that the setting will be there after reinstall (was safe to others, but you never know);

I think VLC is broken in Testing now. For those of us who already have it installed, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. However, for those who don't have it and want it installed, I think it will be impossible now. The latest version depends on libmatroska4 which has just been removed from the Debian repos (replaced with libmatroska5). Just a heads up so that no-one else has to get to the bottom of this.

EDIT: Looks like the issue is now resolved. That was fast!

Thanks Gerd that has worked for me as well, the only package I have on hold now is gnome-utils. (I guess that is still trouble?)
