Kubuntu 11.10

Postby colyn on Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:33 pm

Thought I'd try Kubuntu 11.10 while waiting for Mint KDE.

It seems to work fine except that 4.7.1 has apparently made changes to Kmail. It no longer will store account pop passwords (box is grayed out). Each time I log into Kmail I have to enter each password then most times it won't log in. smtp works fine though.. Other than the above mentioned issue it seems to work as it should..

Any other Kubuntu 11.10 users having the same problem??

Kmail is my preferred email program so I don't want to find another..

One other thing it no longer automatically sets up Identities.. I have to manually do it myself..

I have used it (have a clone of it stored). I don't use KMail, but from the Kubuntu Forums I gather that it is a known bug in KDE 4.7.1. Another big bug is the window buttons remaining on the panel sometimes after closing a window.

I've noticed this too. I wonder if 4.7.2 fixes these issues..

i've replaced the window list with smooth tasks and the ghosting buttons still appear randomly with 4.7.3 (not in kubuntu, so i don't think it's a kubuntu specific issue).

I have also sometimes the same thing in Mageia Cauldron KDE, regardless of the KDE version as Cauldron had 4.7.0, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 and now 4.7.3 But I should test more with 4.7.3 because it is quite new so maybe the problem is gone with it...?

I've read that both the KMail and window button issues are KDE bugs and not distro-specific. My LMDE still has KDE 4.6.5 and these problems don't exist. I'm starting to wonder if KDE was the best direction to go.

I've played with kde (and kubuntu) a number of times but always end up returning to gnome...something about it i just don't like...it has a kind of "weirdness" about it that is difficult to explain

Yes! :D No problem with KMail here in Mageia and the window button thing is relatively light, it's there just sometimes, occasionally, and if I wish to remove it, I just need to open another window, whatever the app, for that the ghost button disappears immediately... Not a big problem. But yes, it's a stupid bug.
