There was a review for LMDE in the latest DistroWatch weekly news. That might account for some of the clicks.

I think it is because of so many fugitives from Unity and Gnome3. I know that is the reason I am here.

Fedora before Debian? We're going to die!

... anyway, this shows how reliable the ranking there is. Remember that rankings like that one are based on a certain amount of people asked (or analyzed?).

So the Distrowatch ranking is, more or less, pointless. See, I have never seen Mint on a server, mostly they are CentOS or Debian systems. I bet this is not even taken into consideration there. And so on...

It all depends on who you ask!
Linux is not the only answer! :: eD2k/Kad mirrors for Linux Mint and LMDE.
Users who misspell "Windows" as "Windoze" intentionally will be considered stupid.

I agree. For example, SalineOS is above Mepis in DW's rankings, but spend a little time at their respective forums and it's quite clear that Saline has far fewer users than Mepis. Page hit rankings are simply... page hit rankings.

Nah, it's that Ubuntu/Unity Was recently released with no Gnome 2 fallback, only a half-baked Gnome 3 fallback that had to be installed, and no matter what Ubuntu 11.10 still booted into Unity unless you manually logged in each time you started the computer. People are already flocking to Mint because of Ubuntu/Unity. Just wait until Mint 12 is released, then you will see Ubuntu totally smoked in those stats, as in skunked.
Both Mint and Shuttleworth got what they deserve--Mint #1!!!!!!!

Distrowatch rankings take into account page views for that distro's distrowatch page. There are no other factors, and as such the rank is of little value. Debian, RHEL and CentOS administrators don't need to go to distrowatch to learn about an OS they already run.
