Good reading. I'm more or less perplexed about the matter. I'll probably end up trying something different altogether like KDE or xfce... but I'll miss gnome for sure.

I think intelligent users have already decided. They are moving to MGSE if they don't like Unity or one of the other more minimalist desktops. My bets are on Mint, and before this is all over, I think Mint will abandon Ubuntu entirely in favor of a pure Debian base. I think this is something they have seen coming for a long time. Mark Shuttleworth has become completely senile as his empire crumbles. He's has made the wrong choice this time and it's too bad. Of course he could easily change course and abandon the Unity idea entirely.
