Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

Postby craig10x on Wed Nov 09, 2011 12:03 am

I wonder if the Mint 12 R/C will make it by friday (11/11)...I'd love to be able to play with it this weekend
Also...does anyone have the link to the mirror page it will first appear on when it gets uploaded? :)

I'm hoping for Friday too. It should first show up here: http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/testing/

I pretty jazzed about this. I plan on installing it to a 16 gig usb and maybe also running it in virtualbox. I'd like to try out both MGSE and MATE desktops.
Question, if you are running the RC and do all the updates before release, then is it the same thing as having the final release?

thanks tdockery97 i will be watching and hoping
yes...kbd47 i believe you could just do the updates and would then have the equivalent of the final release... although what i generally do is just play with the RC and then final install the final release...

Im super excited about the release of linux mint 12, it looks sensational.
It looks like you struck a good balance when introducing gnome 3.
I look forward to the release candidate and will install the final during my Christmas break

cool :)
maybe there is a chance then that the RC will be available by Friday...I see 64 bit and 32 bit cd versions (without codecs, extra fonts, mate, etc)...
i wonder if a dvd version will also go up soon...these two just came on the testing site a little while ago

So we are watching for it to say RC instead of % tested?

Wow, just looked again. They're whipping through those iso's at warp speed. So far it looks like the only failed items are ones Clem said would be fixed by final release. (It also looks like they are things I don't use anyway)

So is it possible to download an ISO and start testing? Or do we have to wait until testing is completed by someone else?

Clem and his team of testers work tirelessly to test all the distro updates. Unless you can get into that group you aren't testing anything until the RC comes out.
That way the only stuff that gets out to us is hopefully a relatively solid product. If it doesn't cut it on there end it gets scrapped or held back

they are currently sitting at around 95% successfull testing on the latest main editions both 64 and 32bit so it's not long til a RC is released.
End of the month at the latest most likely, maybe earlier fingers crossed :)

The CD and DVD versions of Mint 12 Lisa are now showing as Approved for RC release
As far as I know it can take 24 hours or more to sync them to the download mirrors
