Problem with Large Cursor

Postby rozen on Thu Sep 15, 2011 1:53 am

Hi,

I am running Mint-11 with Gnome. My tired old eyes make it very convenient to have a large cursor. So I go the Preferences->Appearance->Customize route and set the cursor as large as possible. The problem is that it does not change the cursor size in most windows including the cursor customization window; in particular, it does not change the cursor size when in the desktop. However, I get the large cursor when the pointer is in a Firefox or emacs window. It worked fine in Ubuntu 10.10 but not in 11.04 nor in Mint-11. My machine is a Dell desktop with an Nvidia 7300 card.

I would appreciate any suggestion,

Don

One alternative is to install a larger mouse pointer, as explained here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=50765

Possibly another option that may help you is to go to Menu -> Control Center -> Mouse and check "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed. When you tap the Control key (don't hold it down, just tap it once) a pulsing ring is shown around the position of the mouse pointer on the screen. Helping you locate where the bugger is hiding.

And yeah, increasing the mouse pointer in the Appearance settings just works for some windows :(

Hi,

I just had occasion (I screwed up) to reinstall Mint 11 and noticed that as installed from the iso, the cursor size was indeed enlarged as I expected it to be. Everything went fine until I installed the Nvidia propitiatory driver then I got the enlarged cursor only at certain places on my desktop. It must be some interaction between gnome and the Nvidia driver.

Thanks,
Don
