I also tested the 32bit DVD version and the only problem is that I can't login into Mate.

The 32bit CD version doens't have mate so in that version I found no problem so far and in only requires 3.5GB instead of 5.6GB of disk space to install.

Edit 1: on the 32bit CD mint4win worked but the "Add Multimedia Codecs" and "Upgrade to the DVD Edition" options didn't as I click and nothing happens. Going to check that again.

Edit 2: on the 32bit CD the "Add Multimedia Codecs" and "Upgrade to the DVD Edition" options don't work. Tested in Vbox and with mint4win.

Downloaded, installed, and updated 32 bit Mint 12 and I am another who cannot boot into Mate. When I try it just returns me to the login page. Have the 64 bit DVD ISO on flash drive. Will install later today and see if Mate works there.

Running the 32-bit DVD from a usb stick.

Good first impressions, although I really miss the customization options.

By the way, any chance of making the bottom panel auto-hide itself? Would be great to save some screen space...

And is anyone else having problems with the scrollbars in the mint menu? I can't drag them to scroll...

Running live session in virtualbox and it looks like I've got the fallback menu of Gnome 3. The bottom bar only has work spaces on it. Looks different than the screenshot. What are you guys getting on your Mint 12 desktops? It really looks like classic Gnome in Ubuntu to me.
Will be installing Mint 12 to a 16 gig usb and see how that looks.
KBD47
Update: I am pretty sure that Mint 12 opened in Virtualbox to default as MATE desktop, because I'm looking at a pre-Unity Ubuntu desktop with no Mint Menu, just Mint wallpaper. If so, this should make former Ubuntu/Gnome 2 fans extremely happy because their old interface is back. My only question is why it would default to that in Virtualbox, because my computer can run Gnome 3 Shell and Unity. Anyway, I miss the Mint menu, but it looks user friendly. I will post later about how it looks with a full install to a usb stick.

Works fine here on my eee-1000H. When moving my mouse to the upper left corner I get the Gome 3 lay-out. Works fine. :D

Too heavy for my tired old Dell. :(

Just out of curiosity, how long before the LXDE version?

In virtualbox and on my 5 year old desktop the live session of Mint 12 was Gnome 3 fallback. Just curious if that is how the live dvd works for everyone? Once I installed Mint 12 to a usb stick and booted it on my netbook I got the MGSE desktop, which is pretty freakin awesome :-) I'm thinking that MATE may not be as appealing to me as this working, usable Gnome 3 desktop Clem and his team created--great work guys!

Anyone know how to add applications to the MGSE desktop? Anyone have the desktop disappear for a few seconds when clicking on Mint Menu?
Where do we send bug reports?
Thanks!

Downloaded and installed the mint 12 RC 32-bit DVD. So far so good, no issues.

I imagine this is more gnome3 related and less mint related but the lack of customization on the panels/menus is a little disappointing. Two bars (top and bottom) seems like an unnecessary waste of screen real estate but I'm starting to come around.

I'm used to being able to add shortcuts to apps either on the panel/toolbars or to the desktop, so far haven't figured out how to do either :( I know that Ubuntu 11.10 was rather horrible regarding the ability to configure it. Mint is better, but Gnome 3 is removing the ability to configure the desktop.

And i noticed that if i go into the "tweaks" and turn off the lower panel, the mint menu does NOT default to the top panel as Clem had mentioned...it just disappears completely...and so does the "window list"...that does not default to the top panel either...for that reason, i had to leave the bottom panel on there because i wouldn't be able to get to the menu or minimize an application to the panel otherwise...

Also, i didn't see any way to add a favorite to the mint menu...

Yeah, if I can't load up my favorite apps someplace, I'm definitely going to want to go with Mate. I can add favorite apps to the panel even with Lubuntu.
I'm guessing MATE is not ready for primetime yet, like everyone else so far no luck logging out and then into MATE.

Update: OK, click on the little gnome infinity thingy up in the left-hand corner, open your app and it will appear in that left-hand box, then right click on it in the box to add to favorites, then it shows up in the Mint menu at the bottom.

Everything is working great for me so far and the only question I have is how to make the top panel auto hide or moving it to the side would be great. There is too much going on up top for me. Thanks

for the menu install the extension manually then after you remove the bar and menu turn the menu back on then you will have it at the top left.
tried the 32 cd and it has a bit of improved boot speed.nothing really grabbed me.cd ran fine though with no lags which was a +.i think ill wait for the final to install on my dell.it was also refreshing to hear those chimes instead of the buntu horns.so far now 11.10 mgse buntu is what i is

thanks kbd47...the favorites work when you do it the way you described...

wasn't immediately apparent...glad you discovered that...actually, you pin it to the gnome shell docky on the left side (which gets exposed when you hit "infinity" symbol on top as you described) and then right click to add to the docky which then also adds it to mint menu as well...would be nice if you could just right click from mint menu and do it but perhaps that isn't possible...

would like to see him just put everything into the top panel (since at the current time there isn't any extension to bring the top panel to the bottom) and have that as the default...never was too crazy about 2 panels...takes up extra real estate on my laptop screen...

or at least to make it easier to move the menu and window list to the top panel...

I'm just running mine live...but i don't think anyone has been able to get into "mate" who installed it...you are supposed to be able to do it from the log in screen...
if it works like ubuntu log in...should be a little "cog" symbol to click on and choose it...someone who has it installed should be able to tell you for sure...

Just chatted with Clem on IRC. The MATE problem is mainly in the 32 bit iso. He said it will be priority to fix it prior to final release.
