ps3 media server issue [solved]

Is there any way to use vlc as the backend (transcoding engine) for ps3 media server. I ask as mencoder , the usual transcoding engine appears to be very broken.
It used to be able to transcode and stream with a/v in perfect sync. This is now not the case .with audio and video being out of sync by many seconds and on one attempt last night within iso file, out of sync by over a minute .

It all seems to be geared around windows setup.

Just as a matter of interest, my XP version of ps3 media server still works perfectly as it should.

Something has changed on the linux side of things. I have tried the usual purges and re-installs of mencoder and ffmpeg, all to no avail.

Solved. The problem is caused by the rc 4 version of mencoder. The sync issues were solved by downgrading to the previous, latest stable, rc 3 version of mencoder.

Hi,
I'm having the same issue with rc4 of mencoder. However i'm unable to downgrade to rc3. I think i need to ad a repository as synaptic only gives a grayed out menu option to use an earlier version.
Could you tell me how you downgraded your mencoder please?

Sorry,didn'tnotice this post till now. I temporarily changed my repository to squeeze for the install and then back afterward.
