I (anxiously) await the final release to install :mrgreen:

The only issue I have really had is trying to install a couple of themes. I reinstalled and have only installed a theme from web upd8 - sonar 3.2 which is very nice. I've decided not to do alot with that until it is stable :wink:

Could you actually change the appearance theme and does the look change?

Thanks :wink:

Craig, they all work for me with no issues :wink:

They work for me too. The issue might be that Mint-Z's GTK theme is heavily based on Mint-X. Did you try swapping the window borders (which changes the titlebar) or changing to a more radically different GTK theme such as Adwaita, which uses different colors? That way you would see right away if it wasn't working. You should not need to reboot for GTK changes to take effect.

way to remove giant icon behind the active app name from pan

Postby cimness on Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:16 am

I skimmed through the gnome shell css and I can't seem to find any way to affect the active application. I know CSS but I have no knowledge of javascript unfortunately. I know it's a minor cosmetic issue, but I have found the giant zoomed-in icon behind the active window name extremely ugly in every permutation of gnome shell I've looked at. I'd be happy with no icon at all or shrinking the icon so it fit.

And does anyone know how to remove the black outline from the text? All the other panel text is plain white with no outline, so I find the outline jarring. It also doesn't look very attractive on my setup.

cimness...i suspect that it is probably because i have only been running in live session and with no updates of course...so it tends to be a bit "buggy"...
in fact i popped it in last night, and tried to change the fonts in the tweak, and though the last time i ran the disc it changed with no issues, this time, the
whole program "froze" and it had to re-boot my computer and run the disc again...I'd imagine that after actually installing and doing the updates, one would
not have such problems (including being able to change the themes as well)...

Not a fan of that icon in the focused tab either, remove it like this:

Find this bit:
Code: Select all
.panel-button #appMenuIcon {
    app-icon-bottom-clip: 1px;
}

and replace

Code: Select all
app-icon-bottom-clip: 1px;

with

Code: Select all
width: 0px;
height: 0px;

Will look into how to remove the outline.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

Finally got MATE desktop to work like my old Mint 11 installation, including the real, authentic Mint Menu. Now I actually believe MATE has a future.

Call me very impressed :-) Of course now we want to know how you did it. I'd be particularly interested in how you got the sound control icon on your panel, and if you have power management, and lastly how you got the wireless/network icon positioned correctly, mine is running off of the right side of my screen in MATE.
Very good job!

edit: OK, looks like I will have to eat my words as well on MATE not being ready for release, If we can get the sound control working. I was able to move my clock to the right by right clicking on it and moving it to the far right, thus making my wireless control visible. I was able to get power control with the battery icon on my desktop by putting: xfce4-power-manager in the terminal, then I could right click on the battery to do power settings. Yeah, I just need volume control and Mint Menu and this baby is ready to fly :-)
PPS--I even got the weather applet working on this thing.

First you have to install all updates - else Mate won't work with the Mint menu.

Second... you'll have to ask tdockery97.

Hi all,
I'm having 2 problems:
1 - Using gnome classic no effects, the screensaver is not working.
2 - Using gnome, the menu fonts are too small. Is there a way to increase?
Thanks.

It looks like all the isos have been approved for final release...what would be the link where these finals would show up on? (i assume different from the testing link or would it be the same?)...

Hmm... the directory on http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/stable/12/ is empty. (?)
Perhaps the ISOs will now be uploaded onto the main site, after the official announcement?

They are missing on other mirrors as well. That can only mean that a problem was found by Clem and he pulled the iso's to be redone. By the way, Heanet IS the main mirror for Mint iso's. This is one of the risks of downloading the iso's before the release announcement. If there was a crucial bug, you now have it on your system.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm still on the RC (guess it'll 'update itself' into the final release).
Was looking for the final ISO to install on a spare machine. Never mind.

Yes, there were some posts on the blog announcement discussion that mentioned some bugs in the final release.
Oh well, will keep an LM 9 / LMDE partition intact until Clem gives an all-clear.

BTW, what theme are you using in the screenshot posted above?
Also, the mirror on Softpedia has the ISOs. Perhaps they should be removed too. Can the devs remove those?

Thanks again.
