HP Officejet 4500 not recognized

Hello everyone, and thank you for your time.

I'm currently running Linux Mint 12 RC, 32 bits, on a Dell Vostro 1520. Everything works fine, more or less, but my printer - HP 4500 Officejet - is not seen/recognized anymore. I've tried updating the drivers myself and I also tried installing Linux Mint 11 again, but it's still not recognized. The printer has worked very well so far - I've had it for 4 or 5 months or so - and it was immediatly recognized when I first plugged it in.
I'm a very basic, newbie user, so maybe there's something totally obvious that I forgot to do... Can anyone please help me?

I don't know how to install an old HP670C parallel printer in Mint 12 (which looks fine!)
System settings shows 'printers' but I can't make it work.
In fact I don't know what to do with it?
Anybody an idea?

Experimenting brought me further. I was able to install the printer via MATE.
But this is not 'finished' it appears.

Method 1:

I have a all-in-one-4215 and was having issues also. see my thread.

never had a problem with this printer and Linux until I installed Mint 12. but using firefox to set it up its all good now, and you can also set up the wireless sharing through the webui
