ATI does not work well with KDE on Mint DE either. Not sure why.

I have AMD Catalyst 11.11 running flawlessly in LMDE. Not sure how you went about installing, but this is how I did it after a fresh install......

1. Download 11.11 from AMD's site
2. Right click on the downloaded file and make it executable
3. Double click the file and choose to open in terminal
4. Install process is smooth from there
5. Reboot
6. Right click on Admin mode icon and change launch properties to gksu amdcccle
7. Double click Admin mode icon, make your changes, then reboot. All should work fine....

I have eyefinity across 3 27" screens and they work flawlessly. In fact, of all distros I've tried, and there are MANY, LMDE was the easiest of all to configure my graphics cards (2x 6970's in crossfire). If you have any questions let me know.

This is for Shadowfax. I fiddled around and figured out how to move the panel from top to bottom but it is a pain but here goes. Put the mouse cursor over the panel and depress and hold the left alt key then while holding the alt key down depress both the right and left mouse keys at the same time. should see a menu while still holding both moue keys down release only the alt key and using the down arrow key until the properties entry is highlighted depress the enter key and release the mouse keys and should see the familiar panel settings menu select bottom and viola it should now be on the bottom. Guess the Gnome developers didn't want the handicapped or otherwise uncoordinated to be able to change this easily will be glad when a simple right mouse lick does this as before .This also works to place the usual applets in the panel the only thing is to install panel applets requires the alt key right and left mouse keys combination. Probably shouldn't say this but how very microsoftish of them. Hope this helps.

Lol, or you could just install the extension called "Gnome-shell-reflection" and it will move the panel to the bottom just by turning it on! This link should help...http://www.webupd8.org/2011/06/get-clas ... these.html

Once they are installed just log out and log back in, then go to "Advanced Settings" and choose the shell extensions tab on the left. Then just scroll til you see "gnome shell reflection extension" and turn it on. Once you turn it on your panel will immediately go to the bottom of the screen.

tbh I like the setup for Gnome 3 chosen by LM ... its certainly very very nice. There are a few things that in my opinion old school was better:
- 1 - I have the right mouse button and I wanna use it ...
- 2 - I could not find a way to add quicklaunch buttons to the panel (near the menu). When I started using Win95/IE4 the quicklaunch bar was a god send ...
- 3 - No shortcuts on desktop ... why?
- 4 - Shutdown/logout/Lock etc not added to the Mint Menu ... rather than having to go to the top right. I guess that for many people the menu is still the central way of navigating.

For the rest I moved from 11 to 12RC and I like it quite a lot. Visually is better and the idea of having a task oriented desktop is good too as long as I can navigate my current screen like I used to do before.

Installed Linux Mint 12 RC and ran latest updates something like 200+mb worth.

Gigabyte EP45-DSL3 board using Q6600, 6GB DDR2, 500GB SATA, Geforce 8400GS using 2x Dell 23" Wide LED's.

Runs great, I am a big Fedora user for quite a while now so I know how Gnome 3 runs, Love the corner tap to view sidebar. The corner tap is the best, use it all the time. I actually prefer this version of Gnome 3 it is very nice however at this current stage sometimes the interface crashes and restarts all the panels. No errors just top bar disappears, bottom then restarts. Monitors work as Twinview straight off the bat after installing the Nvidia drivers.

2nd machine.

ASrock 6 Core motherboard, AMD Dual Core X2 245, 4GB DDR2, 500GB SATA,Geforce 8400GS using 2x Dell 23" Wide LED's.

Runs ok i guess similar too the above build however this machine also gets the crashes, currently it has crashed and all panels have disappeared but it still showing the copy data window as i'm transferring from drive to drive. Very snappy and nice also, Only 1 of the 2 screens work though even though the AMD is disabled through the bios.

2 different machines, different chipsets are telling me this crashing of the panels is a wide spread issue?

Anyways I'm keeping them and one will be my work and one will be for home. Very good distro and I'm glad Li8nux mint chose the Gnome 3 way as it's my favorite interface.

hi, I am 80 year old kinda newbee, dual booting with Mint 10, 11 and 12, among a few others. I am in love with Julia, and I like 11. When 12 gets it's bugs squashed, it will awesome. Time and progress moves on, and no screaming and pounding on the desk will stop it. Take the positive attitude and go for constructive ideas.

Not sure if this is the correct place to add this, but is there going to be a way in the 12 final release to specify which printer driver you can use in the printing GUI? The auto select for my Samsung selects a driver that won't work. Looked & looked on the GUI for advanced settings, edit settings, etc... to manually select driver (like it was in Mint 11/10/9/8/7/6/5, etc...) -- to no avail.

Was curious and tried this but it didn't work for me. No menu showed at all, just the same as right-clicking on the panel. Do I have to disable Mint's bottom panel first?

According to my research and past experience with other distros that included Gnome-shell, yes it is. The Gnome-shell interface tends to crash intermittently and usually throws a seg fault if you check the logs. It's been reported numerous times both to respective distributions and to Gnome.org itself. In Linux Mint 12 I've found that updating the favorites bar or updating/adding menu items via Alacarte (Main Menu) can also crash Gnome-shell or at least make it restart itself. If Gnome-shell does crash and not revover, half the time you can hit ctrl-alt-del which will bring up the "log-off" dialog box. If this doesn't work you either have to force a power off or drop to a command prompt (ctrl-alt-F1) and reboot from there. I've found no way to restart the DE or Gnome-shell from the command prompt though.
