Zeitgeist Datahub

Postby tomast on Mon Nov 28, 2011 1:08 am

Has anyone noticed this Zeitgeist Datahub in the startup programs ?
From what I can find out about it , it seems a little like shades of Microsoft and/or Google.
Tracking your every move "to better serve you"
Am I just being too paranoid or is this a little invasive ?
Actually I don't much want anything or anyone tracking what files I open or what I am surfing on the web
or any sort of personal information.... :(

"Zeitgeist is a service which logs the user's activities and events (files opened, websites visited, conversations held with other people, etc.) and makes the relevant information available to other applications.
It serves as a comprehensive activity log and also makes it possible to determine relationships between items based on usage patterns."

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Maybe this article may explain it better.

Basically, instead of knowing the exact location of a certain file, you can look up which files you had opened 5 minutes ago (say, prior to the reboot) and open files from there.

I remove Zeitgeist from my start-up files. As long as I am not required to run it, then I don't object to it being a default.

I've also removed zeitgeist as it appears to be spyware.
