How I would change LINUX MINT 12 !!!

Postby charliemoss on Sat Nov 12, 2011 8:28 am

With a few simple changes Linux Mint 12 would be the best.... again

Bottom Panel
Remove it completely . Put the "open program tabs" on the top panel.
Top Panel
Narrow the indicator icons
Replace username with simple LM logo
When mousing over the infinity symbol have the Windows & Application buttons appear there, in place of the infinity symbol
Put the search & Applications menu on the left
Other
Give the user the choice to "always show" dock (like in AWN, Unity, etc.)
Add right click "Launch on Log In"
and finally add some Linux Mint style

Of course, there are many more great tweaks, hide panel etc, but this could a good start.

frippery extension:"Favourites in panel" is a must for me,
Sweet, lets you put application icon on top panel and one click them to launch (bypass mintmenu/activites)

available here: http://intgat.tigress.co.uk/rmy/extensions/index.html

Do away with the panels altogether, use a dock

Removing the bottom panel freed up space and makes Mint 12 much better for me.

Gnome has to my knowledge always been the closest to Mac. A doc is functional, and elegant. All the things the gnome shell isnt at this point. I dont miss the panels (perhaps I should call them Windows wannabe stuff).

I'd get rid of the current foreground app on the top panel. In this instance, it's Firefox that's being shown. If I switched to Thunderbird, it would show there. I would think that most people would know what app they're using at any given moment. :)
