KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

Post by zerozero »

NOTE: kde 4.7.4 is (as of march/april 2012) in testing and in UP4, so this "adventure" isn't necessary anymore. just open synaptic and install it.

Qt-KDE.Debian has uploaded 4.7.2 (except kdepim), but this time only on amd64 (due to the lack of time of the i386 maintainer) << now with i386 pkgs as well.

being a semi-official debian-kde build, it won't come through the standard debian repos, but all the info is here -> http://qt-kde.debian.net/

Sweet! I guess I'll change my repos to follow sid (if it's needed). Thanks for the info!

Awesome, it would be great if Debian KDE 4.7 move to Debian Testing before new year and we will then have kde 4.7 in LMDE KDE release. :)

Hmm. I'm running LMDE 64 tracking testing but I'm not seeing the updated KDE packages. Here's my sources.list

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/multimedia testing main non-free
Anyone have an idea why I'm not seeing the new KDE packages?

BostonPeng use the info bellow at your own risk, it may break your install

as you can see in your sources.list, you are tracking incoming, so in order to get kde4.7.2 there a few steps you have to do:
- change from incoming to testing, update/dist-upgrade and be happy with the result;
- change from testing to sid and do the same as above;
- add the Qt.kde.debian repo as explained in the link in the first post of this topic, update/dist-upgrade
- have a lot of luck in all of the above to come out with a shiny KDE 4.7.2 desktop :D

to help you with some of those steps, this topic is very handy http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 94&start=0

Funny, I thought I was tracking the right repos. I need to head out, partly due to a problem with the subways, but I'll check it out in the am. Thanks for the info, zero. I really want the new KDE.

Ok, I'm finally at a point where I can get the new KDE. I just have one problem. I can't find the repos list to track testing rather than incoming. Does someone have a link to the repos I need?

I really hate these grey moments. :cry:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=79533
what do you think you're missing
the experimental one from zerozero a few days ago?
experimental-snapshots
that one?
i think at this point someone knowledgeable would ask you to show sources list again
also i think i had to comment out linuxmint ones so that it could 'see' the proper ones
see also the gerd50 post about all possible sources lists
and remember sid =something (was it testing?)
wheezy=something else
squeeze=something else again
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE Qt.kde.debian repo
so what's your sources list?
if you confuse me i'm going to have to ask for help
but at this point i've got it working

and all my advice could seriously very seriously bork your system
maybe you just need apt-get update&&upgrade&&dist.upgrade as my hero zerozero has taught us
i don't really know...as you could tell by my join date i'm pretty fresh at this
you probably ought to make a clone/backup first. are you familiar with that process?

Thanks for the assist, Gene. As far as my cap goes, I was born in New Orleans and have been a Dodger fan since high school back in the 70's. Not even Frank McCourt (a Bostonian, as it turns out) can make me stop bleeding Dodger Blue. 8)

No prob, Gene.

I'm happy to say I have now updated to Testing. 761 upgrades do far, 302 more with the initial reboot. Other than a borked networking app it looks good so far so I'll snag the next batch of updates in the am, and then I get to snag the new KDE. Yippee!

My dood it! I now have KDE SC 4.7.2, and the only problems I've encountered is a wireless glitch with the 3.1.0-1-amd64 kernel that's got issues with my wireless (a simplie switch to the 3.0.0-1-amd64 lets my boot in with no problem), the python issue I've already seen in another thread, and something has gone wrong enough with Chromium that it's useless, but that's what I've got Fx still around for. Thanks for all the assists, y'all!
