That seems to be a conky installation with no conky customizations!!!
So you have never customized conky?
Wow, that must look pretty ugly...

Ok, ok... If you really want to use conky, please follow THIS tutorial.
Then you can use the workaround to fix the problem with window-list extension.

Just as information in case a search ever leads anyone here. I don't believe it was an intended fix, but moving the top panel to the bottom using these tweaks has fixed my problem of not being able to use the top monitor in my dual monitor configuration.

I use a 1920x1280 laptop in combination with a second 1920x1280 screen in an over and under configuration with laptop screen on the bottom set as the primary. Before using these tweaks it was impossible to drag any application to the top monitor. The applications would not "pass through" the top panel. The mouse would keep going, but the app crashes into the top panel and stops.

Moving the top panel to the bottom, makes both monitors usable with gnome shell. I can now run my vmware OS's in the top monitor and mail, web, linux apps on the bottom monitor again. Suck it, gestapo Gnome 3 team and your tablet interface for nearly blind people. The guys in this thread along with Mint have returned some semblance of usability to what you took away from us.

The author of Minty has come out with an updated version of that theme which fixes the problem with the bottom panel. I tested it and it works fine for me. To keep things simple and avoid support headaches in the future, you may want to pull your .zip file and just link to the original...

Do you have the notifications extension enabled?
If not, enable it, restart Gnome shell and post the results.

I'm a little bit shocked about our "discovery" that the loading order of the extensions depends on the date each of them were installed. That weird implementation made by the Gnome developers can potentially lead to A LOT of problems.
As anyone can see, if two extensions change some specific configuration (for example, the position of the clock) there MUST be some way to stablish which one will do it first and wich latter. That's a very BASIC principle. But Gnome-shell does not have it!

So now it is very important to explain to the people the exact order in which available extensions must be installed.

At least we know that reflections extension must always be installed LAST.

I think this is the right time to start creating some kind of "knowledge base" about every extension we plan to use: how it works, how to install it, which previously installed extensions can be affected/affecting. Maybe a dedicated sub-forum...

Thanks, I was able to fix it by going to gnome tweak tool, turning off reflection and then turning it back on again. Then the weather extension popped upwards correctly. At first I did do the copy, replace, restart thing and it worked correctly.

I have used a lot of the tweaks/extensions in this thread, thanks to those who put them together so quickly. Does anyone know if the window list extension can be tweaked to use up more space? I have a larger monitor and it only goes to the center before shrinking.

Also does anyone know of a good thunderbird/gmail notifier? That is the last thing I need from my old setup w/ dock.

About the mail notifier, you can install classic-systray extension to "transport" any mail notifications (that originally pops from the system message tray) to the old style system tray. You can also use any Gnome-shell compatible mail notifier (Mailnag, for example).

UPDATE: look at THIS post and ignore the rest.

About the window list extension, I think is just a question of time for Mint's developers to fix that issue as they did with MGSE menu extension. There is no simple tweak you can apply to get it the way we want, it needs a complete re-work because that "halving" is caused by the very nature of the task bar (it is not a "one-piece" thing, it's three!).
There is some alternative (in this very thread) but honestly... it doesn't look very well. So, our best choice is to wait for a while. I'm very confident it'll be updated soon (hint: read the TODO list at Clem's windowlist GitHub).

@ esteban1uy

Hello,

i installed my desktop like you explained on page 4 and my desktop now looks and works like i want. Thank you.

But now i miss the top left hot corner. Do you know why and how i can reactivate this.

I found a tutorial in this thread viewtopic.php?f=42&t=86813
but that does not fix it.

--------------

2j. Deactivate top left hot corner
Code: Select all
gksu gedit /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js
And change "reactive: true" to "reactive: false" like so:

Code: Select all
this._corner = new Clutter.Rectangle({ name: 'hot-corner',
width: 1,
height: 1,
opacity: 0,
reactive: false })

Which hot corner are you talking about? The notifications/removable devices one or the activities hotspot?
If you followed the tutorials here, the notifications hotspot was moved the bottom right corner, at least it was for me.

I talk about the activities hotspot at the top left. It's gone.

When i move the mouse to the bottom right corner there comes an empty dark overlay up with nothing in it.
I think this is the notifications hotspot, right? That works.

Yes that is where mounted drives etc show up.

If you're activities menu is gone I am assuming you are using the mint menu msge. Check out this post in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=205&t=85775&start=40#p499352

You may have used these edits as well, this post disables the activities button completely, simply reverse the changes you made and then the activities button will show up in the right corner. You could use synaptic to reinstall mintmenu msge and overwrite your changes and restore the default also.

Otherwise you can disable the mint menu msge in gnome tweak and activities will return to the left, you could then install other gnome menu extensions. There is a ppa for ubuntu 11.10 here: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/official ... sions.html. You could install gnome-shell-extensions-apps-menu from that (or install from github, just google the name of the shell extension).

You can simply hit the windows/command key on your keyboard and it'll show.

Thank you.

@gefreeau
You were right, i used this edit and the activities button in the right corner is back now.

But i explained wrong what i want, it's not the button, it's the top left hot corner with the green "blink blink" when you move the mouse in it.

@nathek
Thank you.

And one more question, can i change from windows to applications with a key combination on activities screen?

- Move clock extension
- Panel favourites extension

- Applications menu extension (or the mint menu extension, but that makes the activities overview button appear to the right of the user name, the app menu extension kills it)
- Window list extension

Sorry for being a noob but how do I enable that ??

About page 4-5 esteban and daniel uploaded some extension packages with instructions, more updated than my how-to on the first page.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

OK, with some delay. I'm uploaded a new version of my extensions(In fact they are a modified versions). Included mint menu 1.1.5 ver.

IMPORTANT: For better performance copy windowlist extension in location /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ (actually replace windowlist extension with the original mint ext.). This is because the extension windowlist misbehaving when he is in .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/. You dont need to copy mint2 and reflection extensions in location /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/.

Disable mint, bottom-panel and windowlist(original) extensions in Gnome-tweak-tool. Restart Gnome shell. Open Gnome-tweak-tool and enable gnome-reflection, mint2 and windowlist(my ver.) adn restart gnome shell again.

I hope that you will not have a issues.
