RECOMMENDED: Battery Applet

hi all,

just want to share my happiness about finding http://live.gnome.org/BatteryStatus and really easily installing it onto my LMDE.
this applet gives you time or percentage estimate of remaining battery life, plus it allows to switch CPU scaling governors, awesome!

just fetch a tarball from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~iaz/batter ... nk/tarball, unpack and run 'sudo python setup.py install'

The default installation of LMDE already shows you a battery applet on the status bar (usually when charging or discharging as far as I remember). It gives you information as a tooltip and more when clicked on it.
Changing the CPU govenor isn't a good idea unless you really know what you're doing or your CPU is really dated.

Anyway, for recent enough Intel CPU, ondemand is the one recommended for power efficiency (over userspace, and even over "powersave") by the Intel's kernel developer Arjan van de Ven (see [1], [2], [3])

indeed, the default battery applet only shows time estimate in the tool-tip.
this requires to hover with the mouse pointer over it every time i what to know how much juice-minutes i have left - not exactly convenient.
battery-status applet helps that.

I have been trying to find a way to get this applet to work. i am using Mint 12 with mate, any help getting it running would be greatly appreciated.

Either ask the applet developer to change the code to support mate-panel/matecomponent instead of gnome-panel/bonobo, or look into MATE subforums and github pages to see if they have the similar applet already. Not to mention that this thread is about to become offtopic in the LMDE subforums.
