Very small Linux for FTP server only

I need to build a machine to use as a FTP server for my LAN so I am looking for the smallest install I can get to support FTP and whatever else it needs (networking obviously). It's only internal to my home LAN and won't be up 24x7, security isn't a serious concern for this. Thus no need for any GUI, only one shell is fine, no samba, vi is perfect, very few concurrent connections, < 5. I'll be looking for a small memory and disk footprint and obviously nothing unnecessary to hinder performance.

Once set up I want to be able to switch the box on, FTP to and from it. Ideas please. Where would you start ? Is there such a thing pre-canned ?

Could check out Slitaz.

Though, have to admit to only skimming the OP. Upon reflection, not sure if slitaz fits the nothing unnecessary, no gui, RAM use ( it's not bad resourcewise imo though) etc. criteria of the post. Ahhh ... oh well, might still be worth a look, if for nothing else think that gnu/linux distro is amazing for how tiny it is !

Have Slitaz on a hugeeeeee 3gb partition, using it mostly as a bootloader though, lol. But it's still under 500mbs total. Still have 2 1/2gbs of freespace left, that was after installing additional software to it. Started out even smaller ! Yikes, that's tiny. Might look it over and see what you can do with it, shrugs. Think Slitaz packs quite a wallop for something so small ...
