KDE SC 4.7.2 enters Debian (amd64 and i386)

Definitely, zerozero. I found out about the Chromium issue and got Google Chrome running (YEA!), plus I discovered I could import my chromium settings by copying the contents of ~/.config/chromium/ into~/.config/google-chrome and not lose a single setting. Even my search engines are here, which makes me one very happy blue penguinista.

Now I just need to see if there's a way to turn the lower panel into a Mac-like dock. I had AWN running when I was on Ubuntu and I miss not having the panel across the entire bottom of my screen. I also had a widget style on Mint 10 KDE that I couldn't use with straight LMDE, and as soon as I can remember what it's called (yet again) I'll see if I can get it with this upgraded system.

KDE 4.7.2 updated here with no issues.

You need deb http://qt-kde.debian.net/debian/ experimental-snapshots main in your sources.list along with Debian sid/unstable.

Basically add the repo then do
apt-get update
apt-get -t experimental-snapshots dist-upgrade
then sit back and wait for the 330+MB to download and the 200+ packages to upgrade.

Does anyone know a way to get kpackagekit for 4.7.2? It's not showing up in Synaptic and I'd really like to be able to use the KDE native package manager instead of Synaptic.

(Yes, I know many people hate kpackagekit. Just consider this one more area where I'm weird. )

But the best way to know about kpackagekit specifically could be to get in contact with the Debian KDE maintainers at http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/qtkde.html *EDIT At http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2 ... 00103.html its talked about Apper (ex-kpackagekit) and Muon as KDE package managers.

Thanks for the links. I see I shouldn't expect to see Kpackagekit before February but it's good to see they're looking in that direction. I may end up looking for source code to compile if I get too impatient, but as long as I waited for an upgrade to Mint KDE I think I can handle a couple of months or so for a native package manager.

In CraigE's long repository list, there's a section for qt-kde: apt-get install pkg-kde-archive-keyring

You'll want to do terminal for adding the archive keyring first, then go into your sources list and add the qt-kde repository....hope this helps you....I have LMDE_KDE on my Dell Latitude D810....runs great...cheers and have a great day.

I've already gotten the keyring and the sources in my list. As secipolla posted it's been wishlistlisted but thanks for making sure I have the experimental sources added. I'm loving KDE 4.7.2 installed. It's going to be really difficult for me to go back to an Ubuntu base when Mint 12 KDE comes out after running KDE on LMDE. I love how Mint spoils us KDE users, even when we have to wait.

Things are running pretty smoothly. I had some instances of the desktop and Dolphin windows getting lagged pretty badly but evidently an update in the last few days fixed it. I love it so much that when Mint 12 KDE comes out on Ubuntu I don't think I'll even get it to check it out, although I'd love to be able to get python-appindicator installed so i can use Webilder.

anyway, i would do it in 2 steps:
1- update to testing;
2- if and when the end result is stable jump it to sid
- there's a couple issues atm in testing/sid: xorg is still not playing nice with prop drivers (both nvidia and ati) and the last update to 3.1 kernel wasn't smooth;

both breakages topics (regarding testing and sid) will be your friend, i believe

now, the sources.list, you should keep always the mint entry as is, the rest is self-explanatory, i think

I tried with sid & it borked my system, so I ended up reinstalling and going with stable and the qt-kde experimental repos. Even with sid, it wants to remove 3/4 of my kde install, this is very frustrating, and there's the issue that when I do try to upgrade, a lot of my other programs won't function right....so I don't know.....cheers

Added the Qt.kde.debian repo

I just feel rather frazzled at the moment and I am inclined to wait for Clem's official LMDE/kde sometime in the New Year.
