Welcome to Linux Mint ZoundZ. It's great to see such enthusiasm. There are many resources available to you. This is one of them:
http://freebooks.homelinux.org/index.php

There's a link to it from the Mint Wiki page. Here are some others and they may be repeats of what's on the above link.

Happy reading!

From reading the posts, I'm not sure, but it looks like this is something possible with Pidgin (I don't use it so?). It may be possible to use this (RE: your post) as a gDesklets eyecandy screentlet that can be added to the desktop. See the gDesklets site and the howto url:

it's actually a screenlet, it wont with gDesklets, to got screenlets open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install screenlets
that should get you the screenlets core
then you have to install it, this is a little more roundabout, and doesn't work properly for some screenlets, not sure why though. But to do it, open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

sudo nautilus
and navigate to /user/share/screenlets and extract the contents of the archive to there, and start screenlets and see if it is in there, if it now you have to open the folder that hase the .py and open it directly.
