Effects have gone!

Hello!

I am completely new to Linux Mint, but have worked with Ubuntu a few years ago.

When I did the initial bootup after installation, I had a fancy menu button with a cool menu dropping down, after a reboot this is now gone, and I have a boring "flat" UI.

I remember that from Ubuntu I had a sliderbar or atleast some sort of "thing" I could move from low to high, which added more effects and spiced the whole desktop enviroment up.

Is a feature similar to this also present in Mint? Or do I really need to install additional programmes?
