Stripping down MINT

Post by iamclueless »

Excellent i finally have a Linux OS desktop that is pretty much doing everything i want with minimal fuss

Im running Mint XFCE CE edition on an old comp PIII 667mghz and 768RAM. I've got the basics, Office, Palm pilot sync, Torrent, a light browser (seamonkey... waiting till Opera and Flash gets along), cd burning, video music playing, etc. etc.

Now id like to start tweaking things in order to improve performance in anyway...

will removing all the applications i will never use make any kind of difference? i.e. DVD burner... no DVD player :P

can i switch to a different windows manager? if so how

im looking for any tips you can offer

the other options for me is to go back to Xubuntu... use an earlier release (7.04) and build it to where Mint XFCE has me at this point

and i will also try SAMLinux

if anyone thinks either ideas above is better or worse than tweaking MINT, please let me know and save me the trouble :)

thank you
