I've heard it in the chat or read it on the forum - don't know it anymore.

The Mint team was busy with Mint 12, that's why there hasn't been an update pack for long.

If you really want to try LMDE with gnome3.2, you need to use Debian experimental repos

See some threads from GeneC, he has it running with Sid + gnome3.2 on experimental

Not quite ready in testing yet. (Getting there) :)
If you switch to testing a do a full DU. You will have Gnome 3.0 (with Shell and fallback mode).
Gnome 3.0 can not use Mint MSGE extensions (3.2only). But runs nicely with 3.0 extensions and themes.

Gnome 3.2 is not fully updated in SID as yet either.
http://www.0d.be/debian/debian-gnome-3.2-status.html
You may have to add some packages from experimental to have a full Gnome 3.2.
Probably be another few weeks to a month before 3.2 is in testing.

In Mint's Gnome Shell, you can just disable Mint's MGSE extensions (menu, window list, bottom panel, etc.) in advanced settings to get rid of Mint's shell and use plain Gnome. Or you can uninstall the MGSE packages.

This way there's no need to avoid MGSE.

Simply replace the repositories in /ect/apt/sources.list from the mint repositories to the Debian 'testing' ones.

Code: Select all

## testing
deb http://sft.if.usp.br/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://sft.if.usp.br/debian/ testing main contrib non-free

I've been using a full experimental install for almost a year now with very few problems (most relating to Sid update problems)--3.2 is almost totally up to date & works very well. The only things I currently have pinned are the same as one would see in Sid--I use a Nvidia card, so Xorg is still a problem.
