Re: major issues
it is strange to read that you cannot find pae kernel.
may be you can use apt-cache policy to search and post
command as highlighted
my results is based on Debian Sid repos, yours is based on Mint Debian test/incoming so you would see differences, but months ago when I was installing LMDE , immediately after install I saw pae kernel in the repos.. and no problem to just install them and get all core working.
try this command and post what terminal output
lmde32g wayne # apt-cache policy linux-image* linux-headers* | grep pae
linux-headers-686-pae:
linux-headers-3.1.0-1-686-pae:
linux-image-3.1.0-1-686-pae:
linux-image-3.1.0-1-686-pae-dbg:
linux-headers-2.6-686-pae:
linux-image-686-pae:
linux-image-2.6-686-pae:

or from synaptic, search "3.0.0-1-686-pae"
or simply copy the whole line.. and paste in synaptic search box. it should show up
you can also install from command lines
apt-get install linux-headers-3.0.0-1-686-pae linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae
Re: major issues(SOLVED)
thanks wayne i love you man haha all that had to be done was the image install.
zerozero thanks to you too but you left that part out.
my thinking was to just do the kernel install with the 3 packages.thanks guys
guess i'll be dual-booted with lmde and ubuntu 11.10 for now

Re: major issues(SOLVED)
actually goona erase it i think...it feels too limited with customizations.not the same as a mint or ubuntu distro.and its way slower than mint or ubuntu.im actually really not liking it.

will that help any???
Just a silly question. After you updated, when you rebooted, in the grub boot screen, did you select the pae kernel?
Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver. Welcome to Hell. Here's your copy of Windows.
Re: major issues(SOLVED)
before installing the headers and image there was no 686 pae option.after installing yes i selected 686 pae kernel then deleted the other 2 unused kernels.
