Disable password requests and loud beep

Postby SnailPowered on Tue Dec 20, 2011 3:15 pm

I recently installed LMDE on my Gateway FX and I have been very happy with it except for two things, don't want the password every time the computer rests or I open the screen and it makes a very loud beep sound when I first start the computer and the login screen shows up. I enabled the automatic login for start up but it still requires the password when I open the screen or take it off standby. I'm sure it's very simple and I'm just missing something but I haven't been able to find it. Thank you!

For the password after pc's rest, in the screensaver unmark lock screen.

For autologin edit /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf. It should look like this:

Code: Select all
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable = true
AutomaticLogin = your username

For the beep, i don't know :(

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer && gnome-alsamixer

Then mute the PC beep

Thank you so much for the beep! Ok, so I'm a total newb...how do I get to the code? Is it in the terminal? I used DOS forever and ever ago so I have a small amount of recollection but Linux is a new beast. Thank you for your help!

Yes, open a terminal copy the code box and use ctrl+shift+v to paste in (or just type!). To copy stuff in a terminal, highlight with mouse and either right click copy or ctrl+shift+c.

:Edit: What the command does is install gnome-alsamixer, then runs it, the && is just a delimiter, use it to string commands together on the command line, they are then run in that order.

Well, I downloaded ALSA mixer from the Software Manager deal and now I'm having issues with Ver 3.0 of LMDE. It won't start. I can still start the computer in Ver 2.6 so I am going to figure that issue out and then go back to playing with it. Thank you for all your help!!
