LM12: MATE, Keyring & evolution not working

Postby anderigs on Thu Dec 29, 2011 6:13 pm

finally got round to installing LM12 and running with MATE. The only open problem I have which I cannot seem to resolve is evolution forgets the password each time I run it in MATE. If I login using gnome3 it accesses the gnome keyring and logs into my IMAP account no problem. In MATE it seems that no matter how many times I enter the password it can't seem to remember it.
In gnome 3 I have the following running:
ande 7531 1 0 22:39 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login
In mate I have the following running:
ande 1733 1 0 22:52 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login
ande 1809 1 0 22:52 ? 00:00:00 mate-keyring-daemon --start --components=gpg

but even then it doesn't work ... not even within one session does it remember something.
Are somehow mate-keyring and gnome-keyring getting in each others way? How can I stop them?
The ~/.mate2/keyrings directory remains empty.
Cheers,
andE

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

note: the problem is not limited to evolution but to any program trying to access the keyring (e.g. samba mounts within nautilus also cannot remember / recall passwords).
Also, have same issue when using fluxbox on LM12.
Does anybody have this working or is it just me with this problem?
(I am guessing some service needs to be started but would like to know which one - currently comparing processes running but there is quite some difference)

Ok, after a lot of reading up in the archwiki pages I finally worked out what I had to do - as I am mostly using fluxbox window manager I added the following to my ~/.fluxbox/startup script:
killall mate-keyring-daemon gnome-screensaver
/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 &
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=secrets &

Also, depending on what is needed might also need to add:
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=pkcs11 &
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=ssh &

But I suspect the same thing can be done in mate by adding stuff in the startup applications.

Incase u need them the best references I found for this were at:

I was having this problem with NetworkManager, once I ran these commands it seems to work after prompting me to unlock the keyring. Thanks for the clues.
