ccsm and GNOME classic in Mint 12

Postby wujj123456 on Mon Jan 02, 2012 6:58 pm

Hi everyone,

I am using Mint 12 64bit, and tried to customize my window configuration using ccsm. I want to have some applications always on visible space (e.g. firefox), and others start maximized. I used to set rules in ccsm->window rules when using GNOME2, but I don't think it's working anymore. Rules are set, but no effect. Is there a way to achieve this in GNOME classic?

In addition, is there any temperature monitoring applet for GNOME classic panels? I used sensors-applet before, but it is no longer available from the package system. Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Compiz is not gonna work with Gnome2 or Gnome3. Try MATE. If not MATE, compiz will work with the cairo-dock desktop, for sure.

My "system monitor" has a spot for core temp, but it reads "0". I don't really care so I haven't messed with it to see why. I have an old P4 2.4Ghz machine. Not much help on that second question.

and you are wrong.compiz works in gnome 2 in mint 12.you need to install everything then go to start up applications
click on add
on name type "compiz" or whatever you want to call it.
then tab to command
type in this:
compiz --replace
then click on add.

now you will have it added to your start up apps.
make sure that it is ticked.
reboot computer and compiz effects should be working in gnome 2

gnome 3 will not have a desktop when the compiz is ticked in start up apps
to go into gnome 3 again just untick compiz from the start up apps.

here is another way to get compiz:
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=86822
Say it with me,"podagee,....(poh-duh-gee),"
got it?GOOD!

Thank you for both of you. Looks like falling back to GNOME 2 is the only way to get all the goodies in compiz.

I'm 100% sure compiz works for GNOME 2, as I used it since Ubuntu 8.04. Regarding temperature, I can see temperature/voltages using "sensors" command. I am just looking for a gui solution, preferably a panel applet. I guess it no longer exists for GNOME 3. On the official site of sensors-applet, it says GNOME 3 in requirement. Maybe I will try compiling it from source when I get time.
