Mint 12 gnome with ATI graphics

I installed Mint 12 Gnome on my laptop with ATI graphics today and configured the settings.

Everything worked fine when I choose Gnome classic or Mate but the others including Cinnamon don't work right. I get text that runs together and it displays garbled text.

As stated it works fine with Gnome Classic and Mate. Mate being the best..

But now that KDE RC is available I'm downloading it and will install this evening. This laptop has been running fine with several KDE distros so I'm hoping Mint 12 KDE will also..

Not a great idea to put personal info on a public forum.

You can uninstall the driver from Additional Drivers and get a newer one from AMD's website to fix Gnome 3 graphics. With 11.12 it's running a lot better than with 11.8 and AMD have promised that the 12.1 driver, which will be released somewhere in January, will fix all Gnome 3 issues.

I am having a devilish time with LM 12 Gnome, trying to use Cinnamon. When I am in that DE, the menu will only display unreadable 'blocks'. It is really frustrating because I want to give Cinnamon a try. Do you think my problem might be coming from the fact I have an ATI 4350 graphics card?

BTW, where do I get a copy of LM 12 KDE? I have been on the hunt since I saw a couple of posts regarding it. I have searched this forum and the Community website...

Actually the RC of 12 KDE has been released to the download sites, see http://www.linuxmint.com/mirrors.php

It isn't yet announced on the webpage. I wouldn't recommend people to download it until there's an announcement. You might know what happened to Mint 12 Gnome, an ISO file got recalled while a lot of people were already downloading.

I tried the newer driver with the same issues so since I prefer KDE I installed the RC onto the laptop. KDE runs without issues with the same graphics driver.
