HP Photosmart C4680

Hi all,

I just plugged in an HP Photosmart C4680 printer by USB and it caused some funky stuff to happen to my Mint 12 installation. My startup now includes a blue screen that lasts for a second, then glitchy graphics for another second before returning to normal. My icons all changed styles, and even though it is set to OFF, the bottom panel is showing again. I have Radeon graphics and I am using the 11-12 driver from ATI so some bugginess is the norm, but things got a lot weirder since I tried to add this printer. Any ideas why this might be happening or how to fix it?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Apparently there are some problems for those trying to run USB printers with Mint 12 and the 3.0.0-12 kernel. A new kernel is available as a level 5 update and this should solve the problem.

To install it, open the Update Manager, then Edit -> Preferences, and mark level 5 as visible. Click Apply and the list of available updates get refreshed. Click the Clear button to remove any other updates from happening, then scroll to the end of the list and checkmark "linux-generic", "linux-headers-generic", "linux-image-generic" and "linux-libc-dev". Then click Install Updates to install the new kernel. After reboot it is expected your USB printer should now work properly.

Thank you, Vincent Vermeulen, I will try this ASAP!
