Andrew

Nautilus is still on the system, as Gnome3 is installed on your system. So if you have not updated the Mate preferred applications (System->Preferences->Preferred Applications->System->File Manager) to use Caja, you may still be using Nautilus for some things. If you were to completely remove Nautilus, and then open a session in Gnome3, things would break (as the desktop requires Nautilus).

In actuality, removing Nautilus would trigger apt to uninstall all of Gnome3.

Thank you for fixing my bugs, but some bugs not fixed yet.

1. In latest MATE (from tridex repo) stickynotes applet can't save a note. I can make new note, but when I reboot or poweroff all notes are lost. In Gnome 2 this applet work fine. This bug is very important for me.
2. In mate-terminal when I open any man page, I can't scroll it with mouse wheel. I can scroll with mouse wheel in mate-terminal, but not in man page. In gnome-terminal I can scroll man page with mouse wheel.

Please correct this bugs.

PS: I use Linux Mint 12 64-bit with MATE from tridex repo.

bdantas wrote:I found a solution to the resize arrows on the panel:

Add this to your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file. Create the the file if you don't have one (I didn't have one in my Linux Mint 12 MATE, so I created it).

Code: Select all
style "default-style"
{
  GtkWindow::resize-grip-height = 0
  GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0
}

class "GtkWidget" style "default-style"

Now the resize arrows on the bottom-right of the MATE panels are gone :) Thanks goes out to stinkeye on the Ubuntu forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1771057) for the tip.

Thank you for that! I've been waiting and hoping that I'd be able to get rid of those eventually!

mate-screensaver not working

Postby bdantas on Wed Jan 11, 2012 2:20 pm

mate-screensaver was working fine until I did some updates recently. I'm just using one of the default screensavers (the artsy blue squares). Now, after my computer has been inactive for the designated time (5 minutes), the screen starts to go dark but then the desktop shows up again instead of the screensaver starting. It seems that MATE is interpreting the screensaver coming on as somehow representing user activity?! Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Another bug I've noticed is that sometimes when caja is open and showing a folder's contents and I type something to search for a file, caja crashes (i.e., it disappears and I am back to the desktop). It never crashes when I type only the first letter of what I am looking for, but with 2 or 3 letters it crashes sometimes. This didn't happen this morning (I am at work now and don't have my laptop with Mint 12 MATE 64 bit with me) so maybe the recent caja update fixed it.

Good call, Stefano. YES, caja only crashes when I try to search a folder with ibus turned on. Half the time I'm on the computer I do have ibus turned on (for writing in Portuguese or Esperanto). Is ibus the culprit, or caja? If caja, will this be fixed for MATE 1.2/Mint 13? In the meantime, is there anything I can do short of turning ibus off each time I want to search a folder while using caja?

Also, any idea why the screensaver no longer works? I haven't changed any screensaver or power settings since it worked last, so I am at a loss as to what may have caused it to stop working.

Btw, Stefano, I have immense respect and admiration for your work on MATE. I'm committed to MATE all the way and will never even consider a different DE as long as MATE exists--Gnome2 was the best DE until the devs left its users out to dry. I am not a programmer but I can definitely help with donations and reporting bugs. Do donations to Mint help support the MATE project, or should I be donating to each project separately?

Uh ... where's this mate-screensaver you all are talking about? I am using Mint 12 and MATE. I have no settings for a screensaver anywhere that I can find nor can I find a mate-screensaver package through synaptic.

Hi, Trapper. Enable the tridex repo and all sorts of MATE-specific goodies will show up in Synaptic. Here are the step-by-step directions, courtesy of stovenator:

1. sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://tridex.net/repo/ubuntu oneiric main"

2. sudo apt-get update

3. sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyring

4. gksudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences

5. Add the following to /etc/apt/preferences then save and close the file:
Package: *
Pin: origin tridex.net
Pin-Priority: 700

6. sudo apt-get update

7. sudo apt-get upgrade

Thank you for this information bdantas. I suspected there was more than I was being offered in the repos.

new versions are allmost perfect.
just missing the caja-dropbox extension now to be able to get links from the dropbox folder.
currently have to use nautilus just for that task.

Yes. I'd also add a menu editor, ability to connect remotely, and reliable scrrensaver. Then it would be just like on my old Gnome2 :D

ohh yes... except screensaver i dont care that much. cuz i like it switches my monitor standby instead of screensaver ..but would be good anyway for those who need..but i see there is some screensaver allready in the new 1.1 versions.

looking allmost perfect for me:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28788188/Screen ... 0%3A46.png

also dockbarx works somehow..basically its just set to transparent and to the right so its over the top of the mate-panel... allmost like real deal :)

i tryed to modify nautilus-dropbox sourcecode for caja..but im too noob in that..it didnt work :)
waiting for solution from smarter people.

this bug is solved in nautilus, so I'll apply the same patch on caja... this will be solved soon :)

can you try to change settings and check if screensaver come back to work?

at the moment, the MATE team has not started asking donations... because money brings corruption :twisted: so, it's useful to report bugs :-)

Thanks, Stefano. I will wait for the patched caja, then. I will try changing my power and screensaver settings and will report back later. I will continue reporting any bugs that I find...until MATE 1.2 comes along and there are no bugs left to find :wink:
