Some sites not working with wireless

Postby erick404 on Thu Jan 12, 2012 8:15 pm

Greetings,

I'm having a weird behavior from Mint here. Many sites weren't working with a wireless connection: I could login to facebook, but it didn't load any link, youtube wouldn't display videos, Dropbox wouldn't display my files, among a few others. At least I could read my email.

When I tried plugging in a cable, everything worked smoothly. Now, I know there's nothing wrong with my Access Point - Windows on this same machine works perfectly with the wireless connection.

What could be wrong?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

It may be that the wireless connection is very slow? Perhaps that causes too big a delay on Javascript/Ajax heavy websites.

I'd suggest doing a speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/

Perhaps you may have to tune something for your wireless chip (like, different driver).

Well, as I mentioned, I don't have any of these problems running Windows on the same machine, same access point.

I tried this speed test. With a wireless connection, download speed was pretty high (10.8 Mbps), but the upload test never started. In fact, it made my browser freeze and I had to restart the computer. :x
With wired connection, the upload speed was 1.0 Mbps.

The fact that it works fine on Windows doesn't help you unless the device's manufacturer actively supports Linux. I didn't mean to blame your access point, I meant that probably there is something needing adjustment in the software driver for your wifi in the computer. With the download being so fast, I'm not sure what it could be though.
