Hmmm, okay. I was under the impression mutter/muffin would enable some effects configuration?

Of course I am still trying to install muffin, LOL (Bit of a noob!)

I do like the way cinnamon is laid out, and would love to have compiz effects on a cinnamon DE.

I'm not sure if you can (or if you're supposed to) install muffin. As far as I know, cinnamon 1.1.3 still is dependent on mutter. I think that you have to either uninstall cinnamon and install from github (not sure how to do that) or wait for cinnamon 1.1.4 (or maybe 1.1.5). As I said, I don't think that muffin is much different (or different at all) from mutter, I think that they are reserving (or maybe they are already planning to) the power to make changes in the future. I agree that we need compiz (or something like it) in cinnamon, but since it is forked from gnome shell, mutter (or in this case muffin) is integrated very deeply and is very, very hard to replace.

Muffin at present does exactly the same as Mutter, but the Mint team can now customize it without having to worry about compatibility with Gnome Shell.

Well for now then I will continue to try Cinnamon but likely go back to Compiz under gnome.

Like I said I do like what I see with Cinnamon DE

I've just gotta say - I just installed Mint 12 on my new computer. Everything worked, I just wasn't used to Gnome 3 so I felt uncomfortable. To whomever the genius(es) are who designed Cinnamon...THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Someone who actually seems to pay attention to usability (no, that wasn't a slight on the Mint Team. They are the best in the business in my opinion). Thanks again for Cinnamon

It is great, isn't it? Cinnamon has become the main session i use on Mint 12 even though it doesn't have all the features as of yet, it is so nice to use already and just "feels right"...the next version update will have even more features :D

You might have realized this, but from the wording in your post I want to just make it clear, clem (who created linux mint) was the one who created cinnamon.

Cww,
No, I was not aware of that. Seems kind of disappointing though, knowing Clem wrote Cinnamon. I already knew he was a genius :D
Craig,
I never use a program to its full potential, even word processors which I use for my work. I just like designs that are comfortable for me to use. Now, if someone could just redo Firefox (the latest version in the updates) Doesn't anybody use nice big easily used scroll bars? :?

Been a firefox user for years (back when it was netscape) but I switched to Chrome about a month ago with no regrets.

yes do try Chrome, trefall...i switched to it a long time ago from firefox....it takes up less real estate then firefox and i think it has the best web page rendering of all the browsers (probably because it is almost a "kissing cousin" underneath with the mac safari web browser (only even better) :)

i use the actual Chrome (not chromium) which you can "deb" download from their site...has it's own built in flash and built in pdf file viewer which the open source version (Chromium) does not...and it even adds an automatic updater (you will get the updated versions through your mint updater)...

glad to hear mint 12 is working out for you and that you're enjoying Cinnamon

and i know what you mean...though i am looking forward to the added features and flexibility in it, i am doing just fine with it even as it is now...
