Open a terminal window and run:

Code: Select all
mate-volume-control

Alternatively, you can open Menu > Sound & Video > Volume Control

Think he wants to run the newer volume-control for pulseaudio instead of the older one for alsa. The pulsaudio control allows for application based volume control etc. I'm really missing this feature as well, actually it is one of the remaining things I would like to be solved before I go all-in on Mate.
I'll look into it a bit, but if anyone else knows of any quick solution then please post.
Cheers!

Ok, so there seems to be an easy solution for this. Simply load:
Code: Select all
gnome-sound-applet

That will open the newer, better sound control. I read on a forum that it won't load if put into the mate autostart. I haven't tried myself since I'm watching the IEM Starcraft 2 finals right now, I'll test it later :D
