<SOLVED> How can I create a 2nd ethernet connection

Hello

Im trying to do the following...

On my desktop computer, I sometimes have to use DHCP (automatic) and sometimes fixed IP with gateway, dns and so on... with Ubuntu 10.10, I could easily add a 2nd network connection then just switch from one to another in the top panel network drop down menu.

When I use Mint12 and go to settings/network I can "add" another network connection by hitting "+" but the only choice Im offered is "VPN". I just simply cant create another "normal" ethernet setting...

So my question is, how can I do what I described with Mint 12?

Nope, I havent tried it yet. So you are saying, with the "onboard" stuff its not possible to do this anymore like it was with Ubuntu 10.10?

No I'm not saying that because I have yet to sample the "joy" of Mint 12.
All I am suggesting is to give WICD a try, in my experience it is a very good very and configurable connection manager and it may be able to do what you want.

Network Settings > Wirless > change "Network Name" to "Other"

I think i need to clarify. Im not talking about switching between wireless connections.

Im traveling a lot for business reasons and sometimes on-site I need a fixed IP, gateway, dns setting which I can setup easily. In Ubuntu, I can add a 2nd connection easily by clicking the 2 network arrows on the top panel --> edit network connections --> see screenshot

So after I setup 2 connections I can switch between them on the fly by choosing from the drop down menu. This is still possible in Ubuntu 11.10 (with unity though, I tried by live-cd) With gnome3 and Mint though, I end up with this if I choose network settings from the top panel --> screenshot

If I add another network connection there, it will only let me add "VPN", nothing else.
I checked, the nm-applet is running and the network-manager-gnome is also installed.

So is there a way to get the 1st one working in Mint with gnome 3 without the need of installing an additional application like wicd?
