Since Ubuntu's plan is to go the way of the tablet is Mint to follow?

Don't think they are going to move exclusively to Tablet, but they are planning on making Ubuntu compatible with them.
Which means that Mint will be too.

Ubuntu = Mint (except Mint is way better). Whatever gets upgraded in Ubuntu also gets upgraded in Mint; Mint uses Ubuntu's repository.
