Upgrading from Mint 11 standard to Mint 12 KDE

Postby Rua on Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:16 pm

Hi,

I currently have the standard edition of Mint 11 installed, but I'm considering upgrading to the KDE edition (when it's released) instead of the latest standard edition. Is the installation/upgrade process the same, and are there other things to look out for when switching? And I've never used KDE, so how different are the two editions apart from the software that is part of the desktop? Does the KDE edition have synaptic, update manager and MintMenu, for example?

There is a screenshot preview of Linux Mint 12 KDE, here: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/01/12/linux-mint-12-kde-screen-shot-preview/

To get a feeling for Linux Mint 12 KDE, you could follow the download link, here: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1919. You can burn the ISO to a DVD, put it on a USB stick, or run it in VirtualBox. This all allows you to get a feeling for it, without having to install it on your system yet.

If I install the RC now, will it automatically be upgraded to the final version when it's released, or would I have to install it again?

Once all bug fixes are applied and you do the updates RC will become the final..

You should do a backup and clean install instead of upgrade to prevent any issues..
