error doing the recommanded upgrades [solved]

Hi, I installed lmde/gnome/64b and the update manager indicated me I have 300+ recommanded updates to do, so I proceeded.
After a while, I got a warning indicating me that I had to choose between the version of a file I already have, and the other version wich was the "new" one, so I accepted.
Later I got an error stoping the update process.
Now everytime I try to update, after a while I guet this message:

-I installed LMDE recently on my netbook Aspire One D257-1814 using a flash drive and unetbootin, and indicated to unetbootin that it was a LM-9 64bit (there was no option in the listing of unetbootin for LM-10 or later), could that be where the problem come from, and what can I do to fix it?

Also, I have no swap, and I would like some since I have only 1GB of ram atm.
I tried to make a partition for swap with Gparted but my LMDE partition is taking my whole HDD, and I do not know how to shrink it with Gparted.

Something seems to be wrong with my memory:



cat /proc/meminfo
tells me that I have 73Mb of ram free, but I am only using 445Mb out of 1Gb of ram ; where does imbalance comes from?? Could that be related to not-having swap?

- the update error: run the dist-upgrade again and when you get the error past this on the terminal

you might need to rerun the updates after that.

- no, it's a changelog, but doesn't concern specially LMDE because contrib and non-free are already enabled in our sources.list; has more to do with pure debian where those repos are not default;
- this doesn't mean that your wifi will work after this update, it all depends on which driver you use; you are installing a new kernel and some drivers need to be compiled each time this happens (the most famous case might be broadcom- but if your wifi worked out-of-box before, it will again now)

no, unrelated.

no, the other way around: it asked you to reinstall grub, unless you have another OS and that one is controlling the mbr, sda is the valid option (if you choose both no harm done, grub was installed in sda/the mbr where it should)
that message you see there appears because the grub devs consider that install grub in a partition (as you did when you picked sda1) is not reliable (but what they know? in multi-boot system one ends up installing one grub in the mbr and the other's OS grub in theirs partitions and it works perfectly)
