Is there a scheduled 2012 release for LMDE or Xfce scheduled soon. I'd hate to struggle through the update/upgrades tomorrow and find out that a new one was released immediately thereafter.

Scheduled? 
The Mint team doesn't really have a "schedule" when it comes to updates. They'll release a massive update when it's ready.

Clem says: "Update Pack 4 will be released when gnome (3.2), mate and cinnamon are stable enough." My only hope is update pack 4 comes before april and mint 13.
