[SOLVED] Can't install mate-applets

[SOLVED] Can't install mate-applets

Postby gromenawer on Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:20 am

So I have been trying for a while and I can't get this package install

-Got this error:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mate-power-manager : Depends: libmateconf but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libmatecorba but it is not going to be installed

I tried to clean broken packages and everything but didn't help.

I tried to install those libraries manually with independent .deb files but I can't find a amd64 versions, for example here:
http://mate.karapetsas.com/index.php?pa ... ibmateconf
http://mate.karapetsas.com/index.php?di ... bmatecorba

So I'm pretty much stuck, I can't find a solution on my own :-/

u might have messed up the versions with different repos?
like tridex and mint own repo. some were installed from 1 and others from other so u have mix of old and new stuff probably.
try to remove and purge tridex repo if that was the case and then install all correctly and then add tridex back again and update.

@xpander

Not sure what do you mean by "purge" a repo. I commented all the repos from source.list and left only the first, and made:

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get install -f

Then I tried to add the tridex repo again but it still the same.

@stovenator

Right now after trying that what I just said in source is:

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa main upstream import
# deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted universe multiverse
# deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates main restricted universe multiverse

what i meant was
remove tridex repo
run update
remove those broken packages by selecting broken from the synaptic side panel
then add tridex repo back
run update && upgrade
and then install the stuff u wanted again.

Looks like you have Debian repos
# deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
# deb-src ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
# deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main
# deb-src http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main

deb http://tridex.net/repo/debian/ wheezy main
# deb-src http://tridex.net/repo/debian/ wheezy main
# deb http://tridex.net/repo/debian/ wheezy main
# deb-src http://tridex.net/repo/debian/ wheezy main

Mixed in with Ubuntu (Oneric and Natty)?
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa main upstream import
# deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted universe multiverse
# deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates main restricted universe multiverse
# deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security main restricted universe multiverse
# deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ oneiric partner
# deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ oneiric free non-free

# deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu oneiric-getdeb apps
# deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu oneiric-getdeb games

# deb http://ubuntu.mirror.cambrium.nl/ubuntu/ natty main universe
# deb-src http://ubuntu.mirror.cambrium.nl/ubuntu/ natty main universe

Though most are commented out.

What version of Mint are you using?
You need to get your sources list correct first, I would think.

@xpander

I did all of that, now there are different libraries that I can't install. This is what I get when doing "sudo apt-get install mate-applets"

mate-applets : Depends: libcpufreq0 (>= 001) but it is not installable
Depends: libgucharmap7 (>= 1:2.24.0) but it is not installable

@GeneC

version 12
edition Gnome 64-bits
MATE Desktop Environment 1.1.0

My source looks like this now:
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa main upstream import

deb http://tridex.net/repo/ubuntu oneiric main
deb-src http://tridex.net/repo/ubuntu oneiric main

And preferences like this:

Package: *
Pin: release o=linuxmint
Pin-Priority: 700

Package: *
Pin: origin packages.linuxmint.com
Pin-Priority: 700

Package: *
Pin: release o=Ubuntu
Pin-Priority: 500

Package: *
Pin: origin tridex.net
Pin-Priority: 700

If it worth something I installed the CD version, then update to the DVD version, then installed MATE (everything else seems to work fine beside that I can't install mate-applets and the broken dependencies thingy)

Add to the last one, that two libraries doesn't have a candidate to be installed apparently. I will try to look for them and add it manually.

OK! :D

You WERE trying to add Mate from the Mate debian repo (old sources list) to Lisa (Ubuntu based)
You now have the correct Mate tridex repo for Lisa
Code: Select all
deb http://tridex.net/repo/ubuntu/ oneiric main

That was most likely the problem. I would use synaptic and remove the old Mate files you tried to load from the Mate Debian repo
Code: Select all
deb http://tridex.net/repo/debian/ wheezy main

if you can remember what they were? Or delete the broken packages, and try again.

Dont know why you dont have the default Lisa repos?
I beleive they should look like this
Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ oneiric partner
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ oneiric free non-free

#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu oneiric-getdeb apps
#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu oneiric-getdeb games

# Lisa Mate Tridex repo (added by you) :)
deb http://tridex.net/repo/ubuntu/ oneiric main

Ok it solved. I will label the it now.

At the end, I installed those missing lib manually and finished installing mate-applets. But then I had a dependency problem with another library to install mate-system-monitor and couldn't install it manually. That last thing I solve it by copypasting the sources provided by GeneC in his last post.

Thank you very much everybody!
