Cannot resume from suspense most of the time

Postby LMSwitcher on Thu Jan 12, 2012 2:31 pm

Hi,

I found a similar problem in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1872122, but it seems dead, so I am trying it here. Actually, I have the same experience as described there, my screen is black with a blinking cursor when I resume from suspend, so I have to force a reboot. I actually had „solved“ it for a while with the unexplained trick of setting „export PM_DEBUG=true“ and doing a „pm-suspend“. From then on, resuming worked fine, until it stopped AGAIN. But now, even repeating the aforementioned procedure doesn't restore the functionality.

Also, as I mentioned in the other thread, my TuxOnIce funktionality hangs in the middle of the hibernation (NOT resuming, it cannot resume because it does not hibernate properly). However, when I had supense working for a while, Toi worked, too, and when it broke again, Toi broke again with it.

So there seems to be a connection between suspend-to-disk (TuxOnIce) not being able to go INTO suspension, and Toi suspend-to-ram not being able TO COME OUT of the state.

Any suggestions? For debugging and/or solving? I am running Linux Mint 12 with all updates.

Many thanks,
Bonko

Edit: All these thing worked fine with Katya and previous ubuntu versions.

Come on, nobody? I would even appreciate some hints on how to debug this myself.

Hi LMSwitcher.

I'm having a similar problem.

In my case, the laptop does wake up from suspend and takes me as far as the unlock screen window. But once I enter my password, I get 'Checking...' and an infinite spinning wheel of death, with no other response from the computer. The only solution is a hard restart.

As with your case and that of the poster on the Ubuntu forums,
Code: Select all
sudo pm-suspend
bizarrely changes suspend behavior for a time. I.e., if I suspend from the CLI, the laptop will not only wake up properly from that suspend, but it will also wake up properly on future suspend actions, like closing the lid, or selecting it via the GUI.

But this behavior doesn't last, and eventually it reverts to hanging again on attempting to unlock the screen.

System info: Thnkpad X201; Corei7 620m (Ironlake); Mint 12 64-bit (fresh install); Jupiter is installed

Hi Bill_KY, and thanks for the response.

Thanks for the link. On my installation, /etc/initramfstools/conf.d/ is just an empty directory, and there actually is no 'resume' file. But I've created one and will try the fix shown on that thread and report back. If anyone else wants to give it a shot, the contents of 'resume' should read like this:
Code: Select all
RESUME=UUID=9dabaecc-ce41-4f79-9583-d9a7d55ddc22
(with your own UUID, obviously.)

Wow, it does! My uuid was correct, but enabling and using Wireless made it work (both suspend and hibernate).

But it wasnt a problem with earlier versions before Oneiric, although this workaround is really nice. One should also note that I don't have LMDE, but Lisa.

I will see whether is stays that way, thanks!

I've also had success since my last post. No issues so far.

What would be the best place to make a bug report?
