EDIT: I gave up on this and did a reinstall.
I log in, the desktop doesn't change from the LMDE login screen default background to my background. My dock doesn't load. The desktop icons don't load. The mouse cursor moves around the screen fine. I can't seem to run any application, but I can hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the system monitor.
Something is not starting correctly. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

I'm not sure what happend, but if system monitor is working probably you can still launch applications from Alt+F2 also? For example, press Alt+F2 and launch nautilus with:
If this works, it at least gives you access to investigate further.
Code: Select all
nautilus

Thank you so much for responding. Alt+F2 wouldn't work because I had already disabled gnome-panel. I ended up doing a reinstall. Thank you. Should I delete this thread or what is the correct procedure here?
