Mate (or Gnome Classic) with root

I need to use Mate DE or Gnome Classic (better if Mate) with root account.
please don't just answer me "don't use root account because it's dangerous"
i know the risk
so: is there a way to do that?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

If you need to run the GUI as root: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 13#p530447

If you need to run a terminal as root:
Code: Select all
sudo -i

I know that but it's not what i'm asking...
when i turn on my computer it asks me which account i want to use.
i've already activated root account and so i go to "others", i put in "root", i select MATE as Desktop Environment (or Gnome classic), but it start always Gnome 3.
how can i use Mate or gnome classic with root account?

Have you actually installed Linux Mint 12 to a hard disk? See the release notes; booting it from a DVD there is a bug that you can not start with MATE (though you can select it, it ignores your selecting and start GNOME).

Go install Windows, disable UAC altogether and run them as an Administrator. Sorry, but the request is outright stupid. You do NOT run X/GNOME as root, period. There is absolutely no need for that - even Microsoft has learnt the lesson.
