Need printer recomendation

Postby JonathonBates86 on Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:18 pm

Hello,
I am a new user to Linux. I chose Mint 12 64x as my first distro. I have a Lexmark x2600 inkjet printer that I am unable to get installed because of the 64x operating system. I am looking for an inexpensive Wireless Laser Printer. Can anyone recommend a easy to set up printer for Mint 12 64x?
Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Is ther a list of supported printers somewhere? I have tried both the Canon LBP 3100 and the Brother DCP-165C but neither work with Mint 12 32bit. Both printers work with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 after installing drivers. I assume that Mint has drivers for various printers.

Your Lexmark printer will work, but you need to read the part of the printer driver documentation regarding which versions of Linux is supported.
Ubuntu 9.04
Ubuntu 9.10
Ubuntu 10.04
Ubuntu 10.10
Debian 6.0
Linux Mint 10
Linux Mint 12 is still two new, try Mint 10, and you should be good to go.

I have a samsung mono laser mL 2250 which works well with the supplied cups driver, however the usual proposal is
HP printers, possibly because they support Linux via their HPLIP program
--the only caveat about printers is the all-in-one types, since scanner/copier + print is awkward with Linux (mutifunction device), whereas single function devices, such as a sepaarte scanner and a separate printer can be supported well.
--and scanner support for some scanner types, eg Canon LIDE has been an issue with later versions of Linux distributions (driver/library files that are being used)

The site to have a quick check for brands/models is ..
