For those KDE users interested in keeping track of such things, the Mint 12 KDE build has entered testing in preparation for final release. http://community.linuxmint.com/iso

Hi All,

I'm new to KDE being a regular Mint user for quite some time but I have no knowledge regarding KDE. Is there some easy to read doco on the subject anywhere? What makes this version different and why would I want to use KDE in preference to any other 'flavour' of Mint?
This post is not a wind-up, I genuinely don't know.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

KDE is a very nice looking desktop environment. Some people don't like it because it tends to use more resources than the other desktop environments. But it is very configurable, and many people consider it to be more windows-like in appearance.

Thanks for the info TD, looks like I'll have to try it for myself to see what custom cuties are to be had. Hope it is more bug free than the regular Mint 12. I've had to go back to 11! Shouldn't have to wait too long to try it though.
Cheers and thanks again.

Damn, both 32&64 bit rejected....guess we'll have to wait a little while longer for newer builds and testing. :(

It seems there were some glitches with locales. Hopefully there will be new ISO's to test soon. I'm seeing some nice ink out there for Mint 12 KDE.

Is there some way to know for sure when the real official release is available? There was a lot of confusion the last time about this.

When testing is successful they release it.
So we can't know when it's available...

That would depend on how quickly the testers do their job..

I've been keeping my eyes peeled there, eager for new developments. I'm glad I finally gave KDE a chance.

Hi everybody, I'm new in the forum. I've been using LM with Gnome for 4 years now. I loved it until Gnome 3 happens, and now I want to give KDE a try. I've already tried the RC and I liked it a lot so I'm hoping the final release comes out soon. Thanks for the link to keep a watch in the testing progress. It's 62% now :D. Regards

Welcome to to the Mint family, and especially the KDE branch of the clan. I hope you end up liking the combination as much as I do, even though I'm on a slightly different limb, running KDE on top of LMDE.

Feel free to help yourself to the Koolaid over on the table. I think you'll find it quite tasty. 8)
