Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL510
I am running Mint 12 on my Lenovo Thinkpad SL510. I can use Wired Connections perfectly fine, but my wireless connections don't even show up. When I ran iwconfig in Terminal, I received the following:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
I am a newbie at Linux, but can someone please help?!

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
According to "Linux on Lenovo TP-SL510":
The output above shows that you can ping Google. I don't see anything wrong other than connecting to a wireless connection.Networking
Provided ethernet card works OK with the r8169 module.

Mads, the op was talking about the wifi not the ethernet.mads wrote:Does running 'rmmod r8169 && modprobe r8169' make any changes?
ndharithreesan, can you try in a terminal
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe iwlagn
dmesg | grep iwl

Ok, I think we need more info here. Can you post the outputs of
Code: Select all
lspci
lsmod
dmesg | grep -e error -e eth -e wlan

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
Might be easier to just buy a cheap usb wireless adapter. I use a Belkin 150mz with my desktop.

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
I had same problem with my dual boot (Mint 12 /Windows 7) Hp Pavilion Dm1 which has a Broadcom router.
Worked fine in WIndows but would not connect in Mint 12 , I tried all the solutions I could find but to no avai.
I connected with a belkin usb adapter and that was fine.
But it did work when I visited my friends houses who used a variety of routers!
Today magically it is working fine - after 3 months of trying.
So I no longer have the belkin plugged in.
The solution ?
I complained to my BB provider yesterday because I had a speed of 0.2 mps it was fixed for me but by evening even my Compaq running Linux12 was not recognising its wireless adapter (no problems ever before)
Today my BB provider re provided my service and everything now works, the BB provider is UK's BT.
I do have to say this is not the first occurrence of probs with Linux and BT as a BB provider.

ERROR: Module acer_wmi does not exist in /proc/modules
how can i identify which module to blacklist?

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
ndharithreesan, I don't know then, sorry.
Three questions that might throw some light on the issue.
What happens if you replace acer_wmi by acer-wmi?
What happens if you try the workaround again but ignore the lines with acer-wmi?
Run these commands. What is the output of the last one?
sudo rfkill unblock all
rfkill list all

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
I dont get anything back from running the two commands, just a prompt for another command
Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
Sorry, that was just a wild guess since nothing else seems to help.
At this point I would say that I will go for BAD's suggestion.

Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
thats the thing....i bought a wireless adapter, but it doesnt work. I mean, it recognizes that there are networks, but when i try to connect to one, it takes forever and fails. I havent been able to connect since i bought it. I got a Netgear n150 usb adapter
Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
Now that looks like a second problem in the same thread.ndharithreesan wrote:I got a Netgear n150 usb adapter
Your lsmod output shows rtl8192cu module - is it for that Netgear USB adapter? If that's so, look at this thread, or start a new one if the problem is different.
Re: Mint 12 doesn't recognize wireless adapter ThinkPad SL51
Those lspci output really looks like you've disabled the built-in wifi in the BIOS. The SL510 should have either Intel (Centrino Wireless-N 1000, WifiLink 5100 or WifiLink 5150) or Realtek (RTL8188CE or RTL8192SE). None of those cards is visible in lspci. This means the built-in wifi card is dead or disabled.
