I have both Mint 12 and LMDE installed on VMware Workstation. Mint 12 works, save for a few minor issues. LMDE also works, but there's a few major issues:
1) Mouse movement. In Mint 12, the mouse moves at a more or less constant 800 DPI speed. In LMDE, the mouse moves with this really weird acceleration, starting off really slow and then flying across the screen after about 200-500 pixels. Even after turning both Acceleration and Sensitivity down to the minimum settings, I still can't get the mouse to behave like Mint 12.
2) Sound. When I log in to Mint 12, I hear a 2 note chime from my speakers. When I log in to LMDE, I hear a motherboard beep, the kind that happens during POST to tell you whether the BIOS checks happened successfully or not. At first, I thought the audio driver wasn't installed, but since I can hear music in Youtube videos just fine, that doesn't seem to be the case.
3) Unity (as in seamless mode, not the Ubuntu thing). For some reason, mouse clicks aren't captured properly. Half the time, clicking causes the window to be deselected and go into the background, as if I had clicked on another application window or on the desktop. The other half of the time, some totally random part of the window receives the click. For example, clicks on dropdown lists in Firefox have been redirected to address bar and clicks on hyperlinks have been redirected to the scrollbar. Has anybody managed to figure out a way around this issue? I suppose this is more of a question for VMware, but then again, it never hurts to ask
