DNS Servers

Postby PrimeSuspect on Sat Feb 04, 2012 8:07 am

Just installed 12 x64 with no issues except good 'ol Network Manager still doesn't allow me to configure a DSL connection for my system. No matter though because a quick flirt with pppoeconf via the terminal got this sorted. As I'm now in unfamiliar territory though, please can someone tell me how I can replace my ISP's default DNS servers with my own preferences?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think:

Code: Select all
sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf

make your desired changes. ctrl+o to save, ctrl+x to exit

Then you can test with nslookup or the digg command

It not make permanent DNS server. If you reconnect again , it will change to default ISP server. i am using mobile broadband , in gnome you have setting to manually add DNS server. But i didn't see in KDE.

I see, I didn't know you were on mobile broadband, my mistake.

Does this help your cause:

"First, open the KDE Network Manager settings, switch to "Mobile Broadband" and select "Edit". Select the "IP Address" tab. Select "Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only". You will then be able to enter DNS Server addresses."

I'm looking to accomplish the same thing. Noticed in the setting in the gnome version of Mint 12 you can set to manual and change the DNS but when trying to click save it is grayed out. Any ideas?

**For some reason it let me edit the DNS server and save it to Google's Public DNS now, so disregard my post**
